A true story of how this wonderful couple met via Lexulous!

On May 21st of 2008, two people who had never met before sat down one evening and logged in to Facebook to avoid responsibilities by playing what is now known as Lexulous. Maciej, from Michigan, decided to host a game, looking for just one player. Six hours away, in western Pennsylvania, Patty was browsing open games and saw one that caught her eye with its funny game description. She clicked to join as quickly as possible but was met with the disappointing message telling her that someone else had already joined. A little sad, but used to that happening, she went looking for another game. Once she found one and started playing, she realized she had two new games. Lexulous had glitches and let two people start games with Maciej. In Michigan, Maciej was flipping through something like 20 games when he noticed a simple "Hello :o)" from someone named Patty in one of his games. Not used to women starting conversation in Lexulous, he commented on how cute he thought her smiley was and they started chatting. They soon realized some very interesting similarities in their interests and decided to pursue more than a Lexulous chat. Quickly befriending each other, and while reading each others’ profiles, they started chatting online. Patty and Maciej chatted for four hours that night as well as exchanging phone numbers and texting and picture messaging each other. Maciej hated talking on the phone, so he figured that it wouldn’t go beyond that for this cute girl from Pittsburgh. Somehow, however, Patty convinced him to call her the next night. That first phone call lasted another four hours, and the calls continued every few days. Feeling a significant connection growing, both canceled casual dates with other people that very first week. By the beginning of July, Maciej was boarding a plane to Pittsburgh. With no idea what to expect, he at least hoped to see a new city. Both Maciej and Patty will tell you that their favorite part of that first weekend was the completely comfortable feeling they had being with each other for the first time and the comfort of sitting on a couch together, not having to talk, just doing crosswords and enjoying each other.

They made themselves a promise that long weekend that they would talk on the phone at least once every day and already had their next visit planned before Maciej boarded the plane back to Michigan. They had to wait 6 weeks to see each other again, which seemed much longer than it was, but made the eventual time together that much sweeter. Since then, once or twice a month one or both of them has made the trip to see each other and they have met each others’ families slowly but surely. Their relationship quickly grew from interest and intrigue into love and they realized that as poorly timed and off the wall their story was, they had met the partner they wanted to share their lives with. Both of them had had problems finding the right relationship in the past, and had skeletons in their closets that made it difficult to find a loving partner. The distance of the relationship, especially at the beginning, allowed them to grow a trust and openness they would have found difficult starting in person. Patty was now talking about a new marriage and new babies, something she had given up on having any hope for. Maciej was talking about picking everything up and moving to Pittsburgh as soon as he could, when he was at somewhat of a loss for what to do with himself before meeting Patty.

We both had given up on ever finding the right person. I had sadly grown used to the idea that I would end up marrying an ex from a very unhealthy previous relationship, and Patty had assumed that all she would have for the rest of her life was single life with her son and casual dates to fill the void. We were amazed by the partner we found in each other. So now that you’ve heard our story, I can get to the point of sharing this with all of Lexulous. On February 21st, 9 months after our first game of Lexulous, while standing on the beautiful frozen shore of Lake Superior, I asked Patty if she would do me the honor of being my partner and standing by me for the rest of our lives. Patty said yes. In July I will make the move to Pittsburgh permanently and we will begin the rest of our lives together as a family. Thank you Lexulous for bringing us together and making us happier than we’ve ever been before!
